I’ve got some stories to tell.
Friday afternoon Heather’s brother was going to pick us up to go buy his new car, instead he picked us up in his awesome new black Jeep Sport. We went for a drive to pick up his other car. We missed the exit so he took the next one and we backtracked through back roads. The road was wide and clear and before we new it, we passed a deputy on the other side of the road that promptly turned on his lights and chased us down. Needless to say, despite all of Heather’s brothers’ friendliness, he got a ticket for going 50 in a 35. It put a damper on the excitement of a new car.
Saturday morning Heather and I woke early to go to the San Juan Islands for the weekend. We were eating our breakfast in the car and tooling in the carpool lane behind a black SUV on I5 when we saw someone who was pulled over for speeding. I thought, “Oh man, sucks to be them, that brings back haunting memories. But at least I won’t get pulled over since the cop is busy with them. Plus, I’m all the way over here in the carpool lane. What cop would weave all the way over here? Plus, I’m not even really speeding. Plus, what are the chances of getting pulled over two days in a row? I’m glad I won’t get pulled over.” Then we saw another car pulled over. I thought, “Now I surely won’t get pulled over.” And then I looked in my mirror to watch a friendly sheriff switch on his lights right behind me. “Shit, I hope he is pulling over the black SUV in front of me. I was just following him.” I changed lanes and so did the cop. I changed again, and again, until I was on the shoulder, and so was the cop.
“Did you realize you were going 78 in a 60?”
“No sir. I was just following the car in front of me.”
“Well, I didn’t get his speed, but you were going 78, but I will write a ticket for 75 since it is significantly less.”
Needless to say, that nice cop gave me a ticket too. Luckily it didn’t dampen our wonderful weekend to come.
After playing some chess on the ferry and checking in at our inn, we went to a park on the other side of the island and had a picnic in the rain. We then headed south and checked out some of the beaches and took a nap. That night we had a fabulous Italian dinner. The next day we did some more exploring of the island and found some cool stuff, even some alpacas. We were going to catch the 4:15 ferry, but it was already full when we arrived at 3:30. We got in line for the 6:45 and did what it seems like everyone else did this weekend, we watched Spiderman.
Anyway, for your curious enjoyment, here are some important numbers from last weekend.
5, 7, 78, 172
