It sounded like a crackling fire getting ready to roar, but it was the wheels of my longboard rolling autumn leaves.

A duck and I were sitting on the rim of the fountain in front of the chemistry building and Mt. Rainier this afternoon. He inched his way closer, one webbed foot in front of the other. We sat there next to each other with the cold mist of the fountain blowing off of our backs for a good ten minutes. I stared at him and he stared at me; contemplating each other’s existence. We’re buddies now.

I spider snuck into my room in the night and constructed some webbing between my lamp and the window handle.
